The Nervous System Cannot Relax in Constant Transition
Why the body struggles to recover when nothing fully settles
The nervous system depends on rhythm. It is designed to move between activity and recovery, focus and release, effort and rest. In a balanced state, these shifts happen naturally. The body activates when needed, then gradually returns to calm when the moment is over.
But modern routines rarely allow that cycle to complete.
Instead of clear beginnings and endings, the day becomes one continuous stream of movement. Attention shifts constantly, tasks overlap, and stimulation never fully stops. The body moves from one state to another without ever fully arriving anywhere.
Over time, the nervous system adapts to transition itself.
